LUMP will eventually be a stereo module - you know, one of those things that fits in a home entertainment system - that plays CDs, and digitally compressed audio from CD-R and harddisk. Currently, LUMP is just the name of a bit of software that runs on my desktop.
LUMP used to stand for Linux based modular stereo Unit Multimedia Player, but changed recently when I decided that:
- LUMP (the software) doesn’t have to run under Linux, I’d like it to run under any unix-like OS (well, shall we say POSIX systems)
- LUMP (the software) can be run from a desktop as a daemon, you don’t need/have to specifically run it on a modular stereo
- LUMP (the machine) doesn’t exist yet, and I don’t know when it will.
- It’s /<-rad to have a recursive name.
LUMP is currently in pre-alpha development (I don’t know how you tell the difference between pre-alpha, alpha, beta, etc) which means that I don’t think it’s ready for public consumption yet. However, there’s a tarball of v0.0-prealpha downloadable from here.
